This exhibition is the outcome of the international project “A Jerusalem Database: Architecture and Design in Modern Times,” which began in January 2019 through a collaboration between the UNESCO Chair on the Management and Promotion of World Heritage Sites at Kadir Has University and the UNESCO Chair on Urban Design and Conservation at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Jerusalem: An Architectural Glance at Jerusalem in Light of Ottoman Documents (1839-1917), presents a selection of visual images and documents on the urban development of Jerusalem. The exhibition opens doors to the process of modernization of, as it is expressed in the Ottoman archival documents, the Al-Quds Al-Sharif. Archival visual material such as architectural projects, maps, drawings and photographs, as well as official documents not only help generate a comprehensive understanding about the process, but simultaneously add shed light upon the architectural dimensions of Ottoman Modernization as well.
